“Where are you taking me today?” I ask when Ralleth throws a tunic at me before I’ve fully woken up.

He’s been showing me all the parts of his tribe over the last few days. The different houses that now mostly sit empty. The workshops where some of his brothers work to create new furniture, clothing, food, and other necessities. There’s one area of the tribe he refuses to walk towards, though. I have a feeling with how sullen he already is so early in the morning, that’s where we’ll be going.

“Ralleth wants you to meet his parents.” He says as he rubs his horn and looks away from me. My eyes widen when his words fully register to me. Females have been dead for twenty-five years, and he’s the tribe leader. Wherever we’re going to meet them, it’s not going to be a very fun day.

“I’m honored you want me to do that.” I stand up and place my hand against his chest after I put the tunic on. All of the brothers and Ralleth have been making me feel more and more at home the long I’m there. Meeting the loved ones they’ve lost is something I know he doesn’t take lightly.

There are no fun touches or flirting this morning, but that’s okay. Ralleth needs things to be serious for a while, and I can be serious even if I haven’t shown it very much since being in his world. Our relationship has been mostly foreplay interspersed with moments of slight seriousness before we’re back to clawing at each other to touch and lick and kiss. It feels more like a relationship I would’ve had in high school instead of one I’m having with a demon man on another planet that I’m supposed to carry a child for.

“I’m ready when you are,” I say when it’s clear Ralleth doesn’t want to leave the room.

He told me his plans before I had my hands on him for a reason. If I do anything to sway us away from meeting them today, I think he’ll take it. Yeah, he wants us to meet them and speak with them, even if it’s just once, but he’s also looking for any reason not to do it. I want a chance to know the man I’ve all but tied myself to in the world. Whatever we have, it’s obviously something important and special enough for him to put his fears aside so he can introduce me to people he loves.

“Just for a minute, and then I will bring you back home,” Ralleth says as he grinds his dark teeth against one another.

I wrap his arm over my shoulder and guide us out of the room and through the great hall until we’re at the large wooden doors that lead us outside. The sun is hidden by the trees, so the sky has a more greenish tint to it still. When the sun is at its highest point, the sky looks like it would right before a horrible storm hits on Earth.
